Our Mission
The Cultural Health Initiatives mission of the American Heart Association is to build programs and work within systems to reduce cardiovascular disease and stroke disparities for minority populations and the medically underserved.
Our Goal
The American Heart Association Cultural Health Initiatives’ goal is to reduce the disparities and incidence of premature death and disability related to heart disease and stroke by 25% by 2010 in minority communities.
Our Method
Success is driven through strategic programs, messaging, media, and partnerships that reduce risk factors and empowers individuals to live healthier lifestyles. And, Cultural Health Initiatives provides and supports community tools that improve heart disease and stroke treatment and care for minorities.
Our Initiatives:
Power To End Stroke is an education and awareness campaign that embraces and celebrates the culture, energy, creativity and lifestyles of African Americans. It unites African Americans to help make an impact on the high incidence of stroke within the community. The campaign mobilizes opinion leaders to become Ambassadors and inspires African Americans to reduce stroke in their community. Power To End Stroke activates the media, healthcare professionals, corporations, and foundations to advance the mission.
Search Your Heart. The American Heart Association's Search Your Heart program is a faith and community based educational program/tool to reach high risk audiences. Search Your Heart delivers knowledge and action steps to encourage people to act upon this knowledge and reduce their risk for heart disease and stroke.
Conozca Su Corazon. Las enfermedades cardiovasculares son la primera causa de muerte en los adultos hispanos. Conozca Su Corazón, de la American Heart Association, es un programa comunitario que tiene información y consejos sobre las medidas que deben tomarse para reducir el riesgo de enfermedades del corazón y ataques cerebrales.
