Diseases of the heart are America’s number one killer and stroke is the number three killer and a leading cause of permanent disability.  Since 1949, the American Heart Association has dedicated more than 3.1 billion dollars to research – including 160 million dollars last year alone.

The overall goal of the American Heart Association is to support highly meritorious research that promotes innovation with significant potential impact, including investment in basic and translational approaches. The American Heart Association will be the premier cardiovascular and stroke influencing agent for developing and funding early career investigators, including high school and undergraduate students. The American Heart Association will endorse and support multidisciplinary and collaborative models; undertake high-risk, high-reward research; actively balance basic, clinical, population, and translational research; and expand its international scope.

The Young Researchers Reception will honor and pay tribute to the outstanding cardiovascular research that has taken place in central Ohio; and will highlight current association funded projects and the young researchers leading the way in new advances in cardiovascular breakthroughs.
